EMSB celebrates COLORS FOR PEACE
The English Montreal School Board hosted an exhibit and ceremony on April 26 at its central head office at which time students from three integrated Italian PELO primary (Programme d'enseignement des langues d'origine) programs were recognized for their participation in the COLORS FOR PEACE activity.
PELO programs aim to improve student knowledge of their heritage language and gives greater depth to their understanding of human experience by fostering an appreciation of the customs, culture and achievements of people within their communities. In this activity, 30 students from Dante, East Hill and Pierre de Coubertin showcased the top designs submitted in the presence of the Console Generale D’Italia in Montreal, Silvia Costantini and President of Colori Per la Pace, Mr. Antonio Giannelli.
COLORS FOR PEACE is a non-profit association that has been collecting and exhibiting drawings made by children from all over the world since 2015. These drawings are exhibited in important locations in Italy and abroad, such as the Colosseum in Rome, the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence, Leonardo da Vinci's birthplace, the House of Dante Alighieri in Florence, the Sassi di Matera, the International Expos in Milan and Dubai, the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo, the Italian Chamber of Deputies in Rome, etc. The drawings have themes such as peace, family, play and friendship.
COLORS FOR PEACE has a global mission to bridge the cultural, social, and economic gaps between affluent and underprivileged nations by promoting children's artwork worldwide. They aim to create a universal culture of peace where future generations can consciously reject any form of war or division among people.
As part of this initiative in partnership with the Il Consolato Generale d'Italia a Montreal, our students have enthusiastically contributed their artwork to "GIVE COLORS FOR PEACE," actively participating in this project to infuse hope and peace into the world through vibrant hues, bringing a future in colors for the adults of tomorrow. The drawings which our students contributed will be exhibited at the Colosseum in Rome on September 21, 2023 at the Day of World Peace event.
